Managing EditorsDonna M. Hastings, B.S., M.Sc., PHEc.is the co-founder and former CEO of the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors. (www.cafanet.com) She worked in the agricultural sector for over 30 years in Manitoba and Minnesota which included working for Manitoba Agriculture and Food for 13 years. Ms. Hastings developed the Family Farm Transfer Program, was the executive producer of the farm transfer video, Handing Over the Legacy, and is co-editor of the Farm Business Advisor. She specializes in issues regarding the human side of families in business. Donna is the co-founder and managing editor of the Farm Business Advisor.
Howard L. Morry, B. Comm.(Hons), LL.Bis a partner in the law firm of Pitblado, practicing in the areas of Estate Planning, Taxation and Commercial Law. Howard is the past President of the National Association of Estate Planning Councils of Canada and the Estate Planning Council of Winnipeg. He is also a past Chairman of the Tax Sub-section of the Manitoba Bar Association and the past Course Head for the Estate Planning and Taxation segment of the Bar Admission Course in Manitoba. Howard assists farm clients in the areas of Taxation and Estate Planning, including Succession Planning and Farm Transfers. Howard is the co-founder of the Farm Business Advisor, the co-founder of the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors (CAFA) and the CAFA Chair of the Board of Directors. Board MembersLyle Atkins, C.F.P., R.F.P.is the President of Independent Financial Counselors, Inc. His company is one of the few established "fee only" financial counseling firms in Canada. Lyle is past Vice President of Education for the Canadian Association of Financial Planners (National). He also does financial planning and educational seminars for banks, trust companies, brokerage firms and government departments such as the Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiative.
Terry Betker, P. Ag., C.A.C.is a Partner with Meyers Norris Penny, Chartered Accountancy firm. He is a Certified Agricultural Consultant and has provided agricultural financial analysis for the Manitoba and Alberta Farm Debt Review Boards and the Manitoba Mediation Board from 1987 to 1992. Terry created Backswath Management Inc., a company that provided financial services to farmers and agri-businesses from 1991-1998. Backswath merged with Meyers Norris Penny in 1998. Terry has 17 years experience as a grain and oilseed producer.
Jill Falloon, PHEc.is the Family Living Specialist with the Department of Manitoba Agriculture and Food. As a professional home economist, she has expertise in the areas of family relationships, stress, and communication. Jill currently participates on the Young & Beginning Farmers Committee, Manitoba Agriculture and Food's Project 2000 Committee and is the department's liaison for the Manitoba Farm and Rural Stress Line and the Manitoba Women's Institute Board.
Cliff Harrison, P.Ag.has been a farmer for over 35 years. He has an agrology degree and has various agricultural consulting experiences in the areas of project assessment, herbicide and fertilizer complaints, mediation and business analysis, Farm Debt Review Board, Farm Consultation Services and Manitoba Farm Mediation Board.
Yude M. Henteleff, C.M., Q.C.is a senior partner of the law firm Pitblado. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Law, both from the University of Manitoba. He is a member of the Manitoba Institute of Agrologists. He authored the chapter, Legal Aspects of the Farm Business published in "Principles and Practices on Commercial Farming", by the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Manitoba. (1965 - Revised 1971, 1977). He also authored the chapter on Farm Law, published in "The Canadian Encyclopedia" by Mclelland & Stewart Inc.(1996). It was recently updated on a CD Rom format.
Rae Kabernick, BHEc.has combined home economics, teaching, Farm Debt Review Board mediation work, and editing the farm publication, "Farmlife". She has been a farmer for over 35 years.
Robert McKenzie, P. Ag.has worked in agriculture extension for over 25 years as an agricultural representative, a Farm Management Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiative. He has extensive experience concerning farm business analysis, taxation and succession planning and is a licensed Certified Financial Planner.
Irvin Wiebe, P.Ag., F.A.I.C.is recently retired and was a Farm Management Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiative for over 35 years. In addition to his many farm business consulting responsibilities, he was a guest speaker at numerous farm meetings, workshops and conferences. Topics have related to keeping the farm in the family, farm business management, agricultural finance, planning and business organization.
